Silence

After having adjusted to the constant noise of college, I realized sometime last weekend that I've adjusted to the constant quiet of my village.

I always had music on but now I'm quite content to go without it. It also helps that I've got good books to read too.

I Should Be More Timely

March 1 was the 50th anniversary of Peace Corps!

March 7 was my parents' 30th anniversary. Happy anniversary!

March 8 was International Women's Day, and it was the 100th anniversary of this. I got two days off of school!

Chernobyl

The following link is a series of photos taken by National Geographic photographer Gerd Ludwig to raise awareness about Chernobyl 25 years after the accident. I highly recommend it.

You'll also learn fun facts like this:

Apparently, the reactor is enclosed by a concrete sarcophagus, which is deteriorating. If one of the walls falls before a more permanent solution is put in place, the amount of radiation released will be comparable to that of the original accident.

What I Learned Today

I am a Peace Corps homebody. I do this crazy thing called staying at site.

I wish there were more of us.

I'm Not Supposed to Have an Opinion About This

This is an interesting article from The New York Times about the Ukrainian president's first year in office.

UPDATE: This is also an interesting response to the first article.

Student: On the board?
Me: No, in your exercise book.
Student: On the board?
Me: No. Exercise. Book.

P.S. This conversation was in Ukrainian, not English.
